Hazel M. Phillips, age 87, of Neffsville Nursing and Rehab, formerly of Christiana, passed away on Wednesday September 6th, 2023. She was the wife of the late Stuart E. “Stu” Phillips. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Dorthy Stively. Hazel enjoyed taking care of her husband, family and garden. Anna R. Keefer, 89, of Quarryville, formerly of Peach Bottom, entered into rest on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Rawlinsville, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Ruth (Hallman) Gaus. She was the loving wife of the late Harry Keefer who passed away in 2001. Anna worked as a seamstress at the former Tidy Products in Quarryville. She was a homemaker and active member of Little Britain Presbyterian Church. She also enjoyed gardening, needlework and spending time with her grandchildren. James Joseph Lewis, age 89 of Kirkwood, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 3, 2023 at his home. He was the husband of the late Dorothy Jean Hess Lewis for 67 years before her passing on December 16, 2022. Born in Peach Bottom, he was the son of the late Quincy and Clyde Hattie Porter Lewis. He was a member of Little Britain Presbyterian Church. He worked at the family sawmill with his father and brothers until he went in the Army. After working at Wiley’s Manufacturing in Port Deposit, he worked at Powell Steel, formerly S.S. Fisher Steel in Willow Street. In his free time, he loved fishing, woodworking, watching NASCAR, and spending time with his cats and dogs. Vicki L. Barker, 66, of Wrightsville, passed away at her home on August 31, 2023. Born and raised in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late James M. and Betty (Comp) Brown. She shared over 27 years of memories, laughs, and love with Michael Barker. Many remember Vicki for her impeccable landscaping and interior decorating. Most important to Vicki was loving and caring for her sons and grandchildren. She had a selfless spirit and would do everything she could to make things better for others. Hollie L. Broomell, age 79 of Quarryville, passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at Twin Pines Health Care Center. She was the wife of George K. Broomell with whom she was happily married for 62 years. Born in Mountain City, TN, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Effie May Icenhour Jennings. She was a member of the former Willow Street Baptist Church. She worked as a nurses aide for Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community and Willow Valley Communities. Hollie loved the Lord and had a heart for serving Him. In her free time, she loved cooking, shopping at BB’s Grocery Outlet, and spending time with her family. Paul W. Herr, D.O., of East Petersburg, PA, passed away at home August 28th, 2023.
He was born in Lancaster, PA, on August 5th, 1924. He was the son of H. Elvin and M. Elizabeth (Witmer) Herr. He celebrated 64 years of marriage with his late wife, Lois (Showalter) Herr. He is survived by his children: John [wife, Kathleen (Drybred) Herr], Michael [wife, Donita (Schertz) Herr], Marianne [husband, Roger Herr-Paul], Stephen [wife, Kipley (Yosway) Herr], and Jean [husband, George Herr-Riser]; as well as 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by his sister Susan Burkholder of Lancaster, PA and Ellen Rose Longacre of Bally, PA, and predeceased by his sister Lois Stoll. Paul was a graduate of West Lampeter High School and Goshen College where he received a BA in Chemistry. He was a 1952 graduate of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He practiced Family Medicine in Quarryville, PA for about 30 years, where he delivered 2500 babies (including home deliveries), saw 16,000 patients (working 14–16 hour days). He opened a satellite clinic of Planned Parenthood, was an active member of Menno Housing and the Community Action Program of Lancaster and served as a coroner. He served as president of the staff of the Lancaster Osteopathic Hospital, as well as president and secretary of the Lancaster County Osteopathic Society. He was instrumental in establishing Family Practice as an ” Osteopathic specialty” in the 1970’s in Pennsylvania. Reverend Royce McKinney, 92, of New Texas, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 29, 2023. He was the loving husband of the late Violet M. (Shoun) McKinney, with whom he shared 70 years of marriage when she passed away on March 10, 2023. Born in Green Mountain, NC, he was the son of the late Ramond “Rama” and Stella (McCurry) McKinney. For employment, Royce worked in the factory at NVF in Hockessin, DE, was a truck driver for Herr’s Potato Chips and Ardmore Farms, worked in the plant at Ardmore Farms, and worked in the factory for Stoner, Inc. A Baptist in faith, Royce served as an Assistant Pastor of Friendship Baptist Church, Pastor of Trappe Baptist Church, and most recently was Pastor of New Bridge Regular Baptist Church, where he was a member. In his spare time, Royce enjoyed going to yard sales and collecting antiques. |
