Nelson E. Shaiebly, age 60, passed away on Thursday, September 16, 2021. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late P. Eugene and Ruth A. Sangrey Shaiebly. Nelson enjoyed farming and agriculture, John Deere farm equipment, umpiring little league baseball, and driving for the Amish. In the past he helped with running the sound and lights for his church. He also did sound recording for Moments of Glad Tidings and his own business of Shaiebly Sounds Productions. Most of all, he loved hearing updates of his kids. Edna a. Oster, 87, of Frogtown Road, Pequea died of natural causes at her residence on Thursday, September 9, 2021. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Elwood and Margaret Petsch Reese, Sr. She had been employed by QVC and was a bus driver for the S. June Smith center. Edna enjoyed crocheting afghan blankets, roller skating, and was a member of AM Vets. Theresa Constance Walpole, 88, went to be with her Lord Tuesday, September 14 after a brief time of suffering at her home, and in the midst of the loving care of her Church family. A Catholic nun for 29 years, Theresa taught in Catholic elementary schools in Brooklyn, New York for most of those years. She especially enjoyed helping multiracial children to learn to read. Theresa later worked as an urban evangelist in Newark, New Jersey, ministering to the poor and elderly before leaving the Catholic Church and hearing the Lord’s call to missionary work in Kenya, East Africa at age 56. In Kenya, Theresa established Harbingers Bible and Missionary Training Institute. For 18 years, she developed, in the bush area of Kaptagat, what is a very respected ministry that has for the past 32 years trained hundreds of young men and women to go to tribes that have not yet been reached with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Mary Westheaffer Stauffer. She attended Solanco Bible Church and Next Gen Senior Center for many years. Shirley was previously employed by Willow Valley Restaurant and BB’s Grocery Store. Charles L. Erb, age 89, formerly of Bart, PA, passed away on Sunday, September 12, 2021, at Oak Leaf Manor South of Millersville. He was the husband of the late Annie K. Welk Erb, who passed away on October 30, 2020. He was born in Bart Township, son of the late Ross & Esther Lefever Erb. I n the past he was a very active member of the Georgetown United Methodist Church, where he was a trustee and caretaker of the cemetery. Charlie worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation for 36 years retiring in 1991. He graduated from Solanco High School class of 1949, He was a member of the Bart Township Fire Company for over 50 years. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the Army. Wilma J. Wilma J. “Billie” Flahart, 82, formerly of Southern Lancaster County, entered into rest on Friday, September 10, 2021 at Hamilton Arms Center in Lancaster. She was the daughter of the late William and Sylvia (Logan) Sprout. Wilma's family would like to thank the staff at Hamilton Arms for their care and kindness. Wilma was the loving mother of four children. She created a loving home for her bunch and made sure they all went weekly to Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, where she was an active member, so they could each establish their own relationship with Jesus. Wilma knew that relationship would carry her children through their lives in this world. Mary C. Garzia, 76, of Quarryville, formerly of Oxford, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 8, 2021. Born in West Chester, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Clara Garzia. Mary enjoyed helping others, crafts, and spending time with friends and family especially with her two grandchildren. She is survived by one daughter, La Juana L. Lane (Michael) of Quarryville; and two grandchildren, Brianna Lane and Jason Lane. She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Garzia and sister, Marie Ann Garzia. Charlotte Irene (Adelman) Baylis, 83, of Ocean City, MD, peacefully passed away Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at Season’s Hospice, Newark, DE. Born in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Theresa Bronzert Adelman. She grew up in Oxford, PA, where she also raised her two children. Charlotte was a book keeper/co-owner of Western Auto stores, where her and her two sisters continued the business that their father had started. She was a remarkable mother and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. When she was not with her family you could always find her with a book in her hand or walking by the shore. Charlotte loved being at the beach, where she spent the majority of her time in Ocean City, MD. She traveled the world and loved telling her grandchildren about her great adventures. Stavroula “Roula” Groff, 77, of Quarryville, passed away on Monday, September 6, 2021 at Newport Meadows after a 7-month battle with cancer. She was the loving wife of the late Gregory Norman Groff, with whom she shared 53 years of marriage when he recently passed away on July 28, 2021. Born in Athens, Greece, she was the daughter of the late Panagiotis and Aphrodite Michalopoulou. Roula was raised in Greece, graduating from high school and English school there. After high school she studied architectural drafting. Over the years she was employed as a bookkeeper, income tax preparer, and a real estate agent. She also was a writer of children’s stories and was able to have one published. Shirley A. Phipps, 64, of Cochranville, passed away on Monday, September 6, 2021 at home. She was the wife of Gerald L. Phipps. Born in W. Jefferson, NC, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Doris Emerson Blevins. Shirley was employed with DuVall Bus as a bus driver for the Avon-Grove School District and was previously employed with 410 Shop, Avondale and Pyle Home & Supply, Avondale for 22 years. She is survived by her husband; two sons, Tim Lewis (Shannon) and Kevin Phipps all of Quarryville; two grandchildren, Nolan Lewis and Darby Lewis; two brothers, Paul Blevins of NC and Charles Blevins of Cochranville; and one sister, Mary Meara of Quarryville. |
