Gary L. Church, 59, of Paradise and formerly of Kirkwood, entered into Heaven on Friday, April 12, 2019. He was the husband of Robin Whiteside Church. Born December 31, 1959, Gary was the son of Edgar L. and Blanche G. Metzler Church. Surviving beside his wife Robin are 4 sons, Ryan and his wife Stephanie, Jason, Simon and his wife Tori, Patrick and his wife Courtney; and 8 grandchildren; two brothers, Greg and Jeffrey. He was preceded in death by a sister Cynthia Galgon. Gary enjoyed carving ducks, woodworking and for years designed and made crafts for their Christmas family project for almost 20 years. His family also enjoyed the heirloom pieces he made including farm tables and benches. Janet J. Evans, 84, of Truce Road, New Providence, died Saturday, April 13, 2019 at Hospice & Community Care, Mt. Joy after a lengthy illness. Janet was a school bus driver for 40 years with Les Warfel and Eschbach Bus Services. She was an avid farmer, doll collector and a dog lover. Janet was a member of New Providence Baptist Church. Born in Lancaster County, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Elsie McClure Booth, Sr. John F. Hershey, 83, of Quarryville, PA, went to be with the Lord on April 13, 2019, at Hospice & Community Care of Mt. Joy. He was the loving husband of Carolyn L. Hershey (Johnson). John and Carolyn were married for 62 years. Born in Paradise, PA, John was the son of the late Isaac and Esther (Burkhart) Hershey. He was an independent milk distributor for the Pensupreme Dairy in Lancaster PA, worked for Century 21 American Heritage Realty as a real estate agent, appraiser and broker. Most recently he owned/managed an apartment building in Quarryville PA. John cherished time playing board and card games with family and friends. He also enjoyed attending sporting events of his grandchildren. It was common to hear John humming in the kitchen helping to prepare family meals or loading the dishwasher. He made great mashed potatoes. Kenneth C. Gochenaur, age 92, died peacefully at home and went to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday, April 6, 2019 He served as an air operations specialist in the Army and skipper of a crash boat in Guam during WWII. He was born in Manheim, the son of the late Ross H. and Florence Showalter Gochenaur. He was the husband of the late Ijunia Gochenaur who died in 2009. He is survived by 2 sons Richard K. married to Kathy (Rapp) Gochenaur and Timothy R.Gochenaur; 2 grandchildren, Ross married to Corinne (Martin) Gochenaur and Michelle (Gochenaur) married to Jeffrey Williams; and 10 great grandchildren. James V. Hash, Jr., 89, of Peach Bottom, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2019, at Country Meadows Retirement Communities, Lancaster. He was born in Marion, VA, to the late James V., Sr., and Ruth (Gore) Hash, and he was the husband of the late Dora “Jane” (Surber) Hash, with whom he shared almost 35 years of marriage before her passing in 1985. Jay, as everyone knew him, was the oldest of 5 siblings: Avery Hash, husband of Emma, Evelyn Handle, Janet Martin, and Joyce Martin, wife of Harry. Jay was a dairy farmer for over 50 years. He loved his family and was an avid western book reader. He enjoyed watching wrestling with his grandsons and watching western movies with anyone who would join him. Richard C. Evans, 79, of Quarryville, entered into rest at his home on Wednesday, April 10, 2019. Born in Lancaster, he was a son of the late Marvin and Helen (Graybill) Evans. His wife, Shirley J. (Housekeeper) Evans passed in 2015. After graduating from Solanco High School, Dick went to work in the family business with his father and brothers in the building industry. In later years he worked as a painter for the Chester Water Authority. Dick loved the outdoors and traveling to their family cabin, “Evans Acres” in Lycoming County, where he hunted, fished and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Richard also enjoyed working in his yard and using his carpentry skills to build things. Claude “CA” Allen Perry, Jr. of Rising Sun, MD, age 76, passed away Friday, April 5, 2019. He was born on December 14, 1942 in Smith county, VA to the late Claude Allen Perry, Sr. and Kate (Johnson) Perry. CA graduated from the Oxford Area High School, and later in life earned at Bachelor’s Degree from Cecil College. He worked for Air Products and Chemicals for 49 years before his retirement in 2011. CA was very proud to have served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as an Airborne Sensor Specialist. He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans Association as well as the American Legion Post 194 in Rising Sun, MD. Timothy I. McGinnis, 42, of Lancaster PA, formerly of Rawlinsville, PA passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 7, 2019 at his home. Born in Lancaster PA, a son of Carroll “Mack” and Janet Kreider McGinnis of Willow Street, PA. Tim was predeceased by a brother Scott McGinnis. Tim was a graduate of Lancaster Mennonite High School, class of 1994. He was a past member of the Rawlinsville Fire Company. Tim had been an Amish taxi driver for many years. He enjoyed fishing and bowling. Sophie M. Stanwell, 96, of Quarryville, entered into rest on Sunday, April 7, 2019 at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community.
Born in Aston Township, Delaware County, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Catherine Opdenaker. She was married to the late Paul Sinclair of York County, and the late Donald M. Stanwell, Sr. Sophie retired from Wells Fargo bank and had attended New London Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed travelling and took many trips around the country. Sophie was known for her generosity and giving spirit. Jodie Ann Murphy, 47, of Quarryville, entered into rest on Friday, April 5, 2019 at her home. Born in Salem, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Pearl Ann (Sarapulski) Damico. She was the loving wife of William J. Murphy for 16 years. Jodie had worked for the United States Postal Service. She had an extensive collection of Lions. She enjoyed four-wheeling in the mountains, flowers, and most of all spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren. |
