Larry K. Geib, 75, of Willow Street, passed away on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at UPMC Lititz. Born in New Providence, he was the son of the late Robert E., Sr. and Mabel K. (Lawrence) Geib. Larry was a graduate of Lampeter-Strasburg High School, class of 1965. Over the years he worked in retail sales, including Hills Department Store, then he worked in manufacturing at Dart Container, retiring with 14 years of service. After retirement, Larry worked part-time at Kmart in Willow Street. In his spare time, Larry could be found playing bingo, shooting pool, or going shopping. He appreciated the simple things in life and enjoyed watching nature when sitting under a shade tree, spending time with and having conversations with family and friends, attending cookouts, and having many good times. He also grew to enjoy the companionship of his family’s German Shepherd. In recent years, Larry finally achieved a life-long goal of attending a New Year’s Day Mummers Parade in Philadelphia. James “LeRoy” Bruce, Sr., 92, of Quarryville, entered into rest on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at home with his family by his side. Born in Emily, Bucks County, he was the son of the late Charles and Anna (Wintersteen) Bruce. He was the loving husband of Betty (Crawford) Bruce for 35 years. LeRoy had worked as the farm manager at the New Bolton Center of the University of Pennsylvania for over 50 years. He loved spending time outdoors, especially hunting in Potter County. LeRoy enjoyed farming, gardening and most importantly he loved people. He was known for being able to have a conversation with anyone. Richard W. Croyle, 71, passed away peacefully at his home in Kirkwood after a courageous battle with cancer, on Thursday, January 6, 2022. He was the beloved husband of Kathy Hastings Croyle. They celebrated their 25th anniversary this past November. Born in Huntingdon, PA, he was the son of the late Wilmot Roy Croyle and Alberta Mae Seger. He grew up in Mount Union in a log cabin by Licking Creek about which he fondly regaled stories. Richard, or Dick, known by his close family and friends, was a 1972 graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Music Education. Upon graduation, he moved to Lancaster County for a teaching position with the Solanco School District almost 50 years ago. He worked there as a dedicated music educator and department chair, building a much valued and respected music program for 39 years. He retired in 2011. While at Solanco, he earned his Masters in Music Education at West Chester University and was proud to receive the honor of District 7 Pennsylvania Music Educators Association Teacher of the Year. Dick taught choral and instrumental music to thousands of students in every grade from 2nd through High School, and is fondly remembered as Mr. C. Lucas T. Jackson, 34, of Oakridge Drive Quarryville, PA passed away peacefully at his residence due to complications of COVID 19 on Wednesday, January 5, 2022. Born in Timonium, MD he was the son of Tim W. Jackson. Lucas had been employed as a propane service technician for Premium Power Services. He enjoyed building computers and computer systems. An avid animal lover, he thoroughly enjoyed dogs and never met one he didn’t like, on or off the job. Richard “Dick” Paul Harkins, 66, of Pequea, PA, passed away on Wednesday, January 5, 2022. Born in Lancaster, PA, he was the son of the late Edwin and Martha (Eckman) Harkins. He was a proud business owner with his son of “B and D Harkins Transport Inc”. Dick was a lifetime career truck driver, he loved spending time with his family. Dick is survived by his wife Debbie K. Harkins of whom they shared 44 years of marriage; his three children, Sherry L. Miller (Brian), Brandon P. Harkins (Sarah); and Jason P. Harkins; his three grandchildren, Brooke, Briann, and Dustin; his two loving dogs, Katie and Susie. Ira L. Haldeman, 71, of Drumore, passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Drumore, he was the son of the late Robert and Dorothy (Lefever) Haldeman. He was married to Joanne L. (Gochenauer) Haldeman for over 37 years. Ira had been employed as a carpenter and welder for J.D. Eckman, mostly doing bridge work. He was a hobby farmer and enjoyed raising steer. Ira was also a John Deere tractor enthusiast. In addition to his wife, Ira is survived by 4 children: Roy Huber (Patricia) of Willow Street; Mike Huber of York; Kelly Shenk of Drumore; and Michele Sourbeer of Quarryville. Elizabeth Sturgill, 68, of Nottingham passed away Monday, December 27, 2021 at home. She was the wife of Jerry Sturgill of Nottingham. Born in Havre de Grace, MD she was the daughter of the late Louis and Dorothy Usilton. Elizabeth was a member of Porters Grove Baptist Church in Rising Sun, MD. She loved her dog, Scooter. She Enjoyed going to the beach and playing volleyball, and attending car shows with her husband. John R. Weaver, 77, of New Providence, passed away on Monday, December 27, 2021 at The Gardens at Stevens. He was the beloved husband of Marsha I. (Boyer) Weaver, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late George and Margaret (Kolb) Weaver. John was a graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School, class of 1962. After high school, he worked a short time for New Holland Machine Company and then he went to work for a company that built trailers. John then found employment at the PP&L Holtwood Plant as a maintenance mechanic, retiring with over 25 years of service. Vivian M. Vivian M. Danz, 83 of New Providence, PA passed away following a brief illness at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital on Thursday, December 23, 2021, with her family by her side. She was the widow of Kenneth A. Danz who passed away on June 16, 2019. Born in Lebanon, PA she was the daughter of the late Cyril P. and Ellen W. Shutter Esbenshade. Vivian had been employed as a seamstress for the former Tidy Products, Quarryville and as a machine operator for both KD Tool and Exide. She enjoyed sewing, roller skating, dancing, bowling, and going to craft shows. Robert E. Herman, age 78 of Lancaster, passed away on Saturday, January 1, 2022 at Hospice and Community Care of Mount Joy. He was the husband of the late Eileen R. Herman who passed away on September 5, 2003, and a longtime companion of Elizabeth Mellott of Lancaster. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Edwin and Esther Herman. He graduated from Lampeter Strasburg High School, Class of 1962. Bob was a member of the Willow Street United Church of Christ. He worked as a supervisor for SC Poultry Services, and after retirement, he worked part time at the RV Value Mart in Willow Street. Bob served the Willow Street Fire Company for 62 years starting in 1959. Over his tenure, he served in many roles including Assistant Fire Chief, Lieutenant, and most recently as Fire Police Lieutenant. He also served on the Board of Directors and was very instrumental with the Volunteer Emergency Medical Services Program. |
