Charlene E. Fischer, 84, of Quarryville PA, passed away at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community on November 4, 2016. “Chars”, as she was lovingly known died peacefully surrounded by her family. A remarkable magical moment occurred just a day before she died as she responded to an hour of live, beautiful music played by a harpist sent through Caring Hospice Services. Born in Westview, PA, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Eleanor (Thompson) Ehrenfried. She was the wife of the late, William R. Fischer, Jr., they had spent 57 years together. Chars is survived by daughters: Nancy, wife of James Huber of PA; and Robin, wife of James Hoosty of DE; along with a son, William Fischer of PA. She had ten grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, a brother, Charles Ehrenfried and wife Kat of VA; sister-in-law Roseanne Ehrenfried, PA and brothers-in-law, Robert Kessler of PA and David Faessel of AZ. Also surviving is her lifelong best friend, Loey McFarlane. Chars was preceded in death by a sister, Jane Brodhurst, a brother, James Ehrenfried and sister-in-law, Joann Kessler.
Chars was known for her endearing smile and contagious laugh. Everyone enjoyed her spunky outgoing personality. In addition to working at Prudential Life Insurance for over twenty years, she was very involved in and had leadership roles in Christian Women’s Club for almost forty years. Her mission in life was to share her faith whenever she could and to help others. She enjoyed the sun, beach and fresh air. Her passion was to be with her family and friends, being “Oma” to all. A celebration of life service will be at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community, 625 Robert Fulton Highway, Quarryville, PA 17566 on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at 2:00 PM. Interment will be private. The family would like to give a special thank you and appreciation to the staff at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community and also Caring Hospice Services for their compassionate and extraordinary care. In lieu of flowers; contributions may be made to the Kinsman Fund at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community at the above address.
