JoAnn Elizabeth Carroll, 89, of Quarryville and formerly of Dade City, Florida, entered into rest on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at her home. Born in Pleasantville, PA, she was the daughter of the late Clyde R. and Betty (Birtcel) Apthorpe. She was married to the late Colyn L. Carroll who died on the same day, September 10, 2002. Hannah L. Stoltzfoos, age 92, of 5516 Strasburg Road, Gap, PA passed away at her home on Thursday, September 10, 2020.
She was the wife of the late Levi B. Stoltzfoos who passed away on July 18, 2020. Born in Salisbury, she was the daughter of the late Aaron and Rachel Lapp Allgyer. Hannah was a member of the Old Order Amish Church. William C. Axe, age 87, of Christiana, PA, passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2020. He was the husband of the late Patsy L. Shubrooks Axe who passed away on May 29, 2014.
He was born in Paradise, son of the late William B. & Dorothy E. Wright Axe. He was a member of Latta Memorial Presbyterian Church of Christiana. He graduated from Scott High School class of 1951 and Penn State in 1959 with a B.S. degree in business. He worked as Vice President of purchasing for Komatsu Dresser Company retiring in 1998. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. Bill was a member of the Christiana Masonic Lodge, Harrisburg Consistory, Zembo Shine, Lancaster County Shrine Club, life member of the Columbia VFW, Christiana American Legion, Lancaster Elks Lodge and the Marine Corp League of Columbia. Harold M Umble, age 101 years & 6 months, formerly of Atglen, passed away peacefully at Landis Homes on Monday, September 7, 2020. He was predeceased by his wife of 69 years, Lena Mast Umble, who also passed away on Labor Day, September 5, 2011. Born in Gap on March 7, 1919, he was the son of the late Edgar and Susan Smoker Umble. Charlotte G. Musser, 98, of Quarryville, passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community, following a brief illness. She was born on April 23, 1922, in Holtwood Village, Lancaster County, the daughter of Charles Garner, Jr. and Irene M. Rice Garner. Charlotte was named after her father who wished for a son. Charlotte grew up in Chestnut Level and the Buck. She married John H. Musser on October 15, 1940. After living briefly in Strasburg, they made their home in Providence Township. Her husband, who owned and operated Musser’s Grocery Store at the Buck with his brother, Abner, died in 1989. Charlotte graduated from Quarryville High School in 1940 and was affectionately known as “Squeak” by her classmates and her closest friends. She was a lifelong member of Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church, joining at the age of 14 on May 10, 1936. She and John taught Sunday school and Bible school and she also volunteered in the kitchen with meal preparation for church socials and events. Lester M. Weaver 89 years 4 months and 4 days, passed away Saturday Sept. 5, 2020 at home. He was the husband of Anna H. Weaver. They had celebrated their 66th wedding Anniversary on Feb. 28, 2020.
Born in East Earl on May 1, 1931. He was the son of the late George and Lydia (Martin) Weaver. He was a member of the Bethel Mennonite Church. He enjoyed the Dairy Farm where he worked most of his life. In addition to his wife he is survived by his children: Barbara, wife of David Meck of St. Georges, DE; Mary Jane Schrock of Milton, PA; Carolyn, wife of Timothy Weaver of Robesonia, PA; David husband of Leanna (Stoitzfus) of Penn Yan, NY; Anna Mae, wife of Lowell Swartzentruber of Abbeville, SC; Nelson, husband of Melinda (Stelfox) of Tomah, WI; Sharon, wife of Eugene Plett of Richland, PA; Susan, wife of Charles Zimmerman of Myerstown, PA; Lester Michael, husband of Ruthie (Weaver) of Quarryville, PA; and Regina, married to Fred Martin of Sheldon, WI; 49 Grandchildren and 86 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 3 Granddaughters and 2 Great Grandsons. Our wonderful friend, Harold Elvin Pontz, went home to be with Jesus, 10:26 am September 3rd, 2020. He was born June 24th, 1924 at home on Leaman Rd. East Lampeter Township, and attended East Lampeter School, and Bart Township School until the Eighth Grade. Harold then was signed out of school by his Father to work on the family farm. He farmed all his life. For many years, he and his Father, Elvin Pontz used draft horses to plow, cultivate, plant and harvest. His Mother, Wilda Althouse-Pontz, sewed their clothing, milked by hand, grew, and preserved most of what they ate and cooked on their Prizer cook stove. Jay C. Smoker, age 68, of Paradise, PA, passed away at the University of PA, on Sunday, August, 30, 2020. He was born in Lancaster, son of the late Arthur & Esther Zimmerman Smoker and the stepson of Muriel Smoker of New Holland. He was the companion of Claudia Moore of Wagontown, PA. He attended Wagontown Chapel. He graduated from Pequea Valley High School class of 1970. Jay worked in the Engineering Services division of the Coatesville VA Medical Center for over 25 years. Curtis Allen Mellinger, 70, of Pequea, entered into rest on Sunday, August 30, 2020 at his home. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Lloyd K. Jr., Freda Irene (Weidman) Melllinger. He was the loving husband of Lynne Anne (Terry) Mellinger for 33 years. Curtis had worked as a truck driver and a mechanic. He enjoyed working with his hands and was known for his ability to fix just about anything. Curtis was a peacemaker and a follower of Christ. He enjoyed camping, traveling, and spending time with his family. Daniel L. Stoltzfus, 65, of 2220 Hobson Rd., Lancaster, entered into rest at home on Sunday Aug. 30, 2020 after a six month illness.
Born in Kirkwood, he was the son of the late Levi L. and Sarah Lapp Stoltzfus. He was the husband of Emma F. Beiler Stoltzfus. They were married 42 years last November. A welder for Smoker Welding, Lancaster, Daniel was a member of the Old Order Amish Church. |
