Rising Sun baseball coach Clyde Van Dyke thinks it would be a mistake for people to overlook his young Tiger team.
Eight starters, including two top pitchers, graduated from last year's squad which finished 16-3. Versatility will be the hallmark of the Perryville baseball team.
"A lot of our players are capable of playing many different positions," coach Jason Gunning said. Becca Guethler helped the Rising Sun girls lacrosse team make history during her playing days.
Seven years later, Guethler is hoping to guide the Tigers to more success. The Perryville girls lacrosse team expects to continue establishing itself as a premier program.
Last season, the Panthers recorded one more win than the previous season and advanced one round further in the region tournament. First-year Rising Sun girls lacrosse coach Becca Guethler was excited by what she has witnessed during the first 10 days of practice.
The Tigers have several players capable of being a consistent scoring threat. Chris King is the new Rising Sun boys lacrosse coach.
King served as an assistant coach in the program the last two seasons under varsity coach Jim Tucker. When Tucker decided to step down, King was immediately interested in the top spot. Average is no longer acceptable.
That's one of the mantras for the Perryville boys lacrosse team. Coach Brandon Townsend says the Panthers will "continue their trend of improving as a team by focusing on the fundamentals of the game and consistent execution of concepts". Rising Sun's tennis team is trying to replace 10 starters from last season.
The weather has made it difficult for coach Larry Sickels to assess his squad, but he is excited to get a good look at some promising newcomers joining several players who have some experience. The Perryville tennis program is looking to take another step forward.
The Panthers doubled their win total from two to four last season, and third-year coach Gina Pucci is hoping her team will earn five or more victories this spring. "We have different goals but we're still trying to grow the program," she said. Rising Sun's girls track and field team has high numbers and higher hopes.
The Tigers have 35 athletes, the most in recent years. "There is a lot of talent throughout," coach Jim Burkhardt says. |
