The Rising Sun girls finished fifth and the Bohemia Manor boys were sixth at the Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference cross country championship meet in Churchville Tuesday, October 23.
Cecil County wrestlers Silas Filliaux of Rising Sun, North East's Marshall Johnston, and the Tigers' Richie Moore each won an individual title at the Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference tournament which concluded Saturday afternoon at Edgewood High.
Entering the final bout of last Wednesday night's match with Harford Tech, Perryville coach Thad Gough theorized that not many people outside of the Panthers' wrestling room were aware of freshman Adam Campbell.
That changed last Wednesday night as Campbell's come-from-behind 10-7 victory propelled Perryville to a 39-36 triumph over visiting Harford Tech. "This is great. This is awesome," Gough said. "This is the best part of the whole sport." The Perryville wrestling team opened the season with a 72-10 triumph over visiting Elkton last Wednesday afternoon.
The Panthers won three of the five contested matches and received eight forfeits. First-year Perryville girls basketball coach Amanda Wolfe says her team learned some valuable lessons in a season-opening 63-26 loss to perennial power Aberdeen Tuesday night, December 5.

The objective was straightforward.
Win and you're in. Bohemia Manor won. Perryville is done. The Eagles (6-4) clinched their sixth straight playoff appearance with a 28-0 romp over the host Panthers Friday night. Perryville (6-4) missed out on a postseason bid after losing its final three games. Big plays made a huge difference.
Jalen Giles scored four touchdowns, three coming on plays of more than 50 yards, to propel the North East football team to a 48-28 triumph over visiting Perryville Friday night. It's not that often a coach will laud his defense even though his team allowed 49 points.
Last Thursday night was one of those times for Perryville coach Chris Johnson. The Panthers did a decent job of limiting Harford Tech's explosive running back Jalen Dangerfield, but four critical turnovers – two of them returned for touchdowns – led to Perryville's undoing and a 49-12 loss to the unbeaten Cobras on Homecoming. North East girls soccer coach Matt Roberts says Rising Sun is the team to beat.
That's exactly what the Indians did Tuesday night, October 17. North East topped the Tigers 2-1 to claim a second straight Susquehanna Division title and the top seed in the region tournament. |
