North East advanced to the championship round of the District 5 Major Division baseball tournament with a thrilling 8-6 win over Rising Sun in seven innings Wednesday night.
North East wriggled out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the bottom of the sixth then tallied twice in the top of the seventh to pull out the dramatic victory. Rising Sun remained alive in the District 5 Major baseball tournament with a 14-3 victory over Elkton in four innings Tuesday night, July 10.
Chesapeake City and host North East entered the week as the two undefeated teams remaining in the Little League Maryland District 5 Major Division baseball tournament.

Rising Sun walloped a weary Chesapeake City team 18-1 in four innings Friday night at Eder Park. It seemed fitting a championship hung in the balance the final time a softball fluttered in the dusky sky above the current configuration of Trego Field.
Perryville pitcher Emily Wolf wasn't sure if she could catch it or not. "I saw it in the air and I was like, 'Oh, I've got to catch this ball'," Wolf said. "'If I catch this ball we're about to win' and I almost didn't catch it because I was shaking so bad, but ah, I caught it and it was the best feeling in the world. Oh my God!" Wolf's grab of the popup between the circle and home plate sealed Perryville's 2-1 triumph over Rising Sun in the District 5 Senior Division softball tournament title game Thursday night. Rising Sun captured the District 5 Senior Division baseball title with an 8-5 triumph over Havre de Grace Wednesday night, June 27.
Undefeated Elkton advanced to the championship round of the district 8-10 baseball tournament with a 4-0 triumph over Rising Sun Tuesday, June 26, in Chesapeake City.
