West Nottingham Academy's boys basketball team won the Mid-Atlantic Independent League title with an 82-74 victory over Tri-State Christian Academy in a captivating contest Saturday night at North East High.
It is the Rams' first league title since 2010. The Tome School's girls basketball team captured its third straight Mid-Atlantic Independent League championship with a 55-25 triumph over Tri-State Christian Academy Saturday at North East High.
The Titans, who finish the season with a record of 20-4, have won four of the last five MIL titles. The Bohemia Manor boys basketball team was ousted from the region tournament with a 69-59 first round loss to host Havre de Grace Friday night.

Special to The Herald The Perryville girls basketball team prevailed over Kent County in a first round region tournament game Friday, 45-41. Stepping on the hardwood with playoff hopes on the line, Perryville head coach Amanda Wolfe wanted her team to play around one basic concept - the fundamentals. “Our philosophy was to come in and play Perryville basketball”, said Wolfe. “It’s fundamentals. We are a fundamentally sound team.” Cecil County wrestlers Silas Filliaux of Rising Sun, North East's Marshall Johnston, and the Tigers' Richie Moore each won an individual title at the Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference tournament which concluded Saturday afternoon at Edgewood High.
The North East boys basketball team pulled away down the stretch for a 56-47 triumph over visiting Perryville Thursday night.
Allison Rogers hit the go-ahead bucket with 42 seconds left and the Elkton girls basketball withstood a wild final 20 seconds to post a 48-46 Valentine's Day victory over visiting Harford Tech.
The Rising Sun boys basketball team lost 76-35 to host Havre de Grace Tuesday night, February 13.
