The Perryville volleyball team captured its seventh straight region title Friday by sweeping North Dorchester 25-8, 25-12, 25-12.
It was the 11th region crown in program history for the Panthers who are seeking their first state title. Perryville will face Frederick Douglass in the state semifinals Wednesday at the University of Maryland's Ritchie Coliseum at 8 p.m. In Friday's region title match, Rebecca Holman had 12 kills and six blocks. Hailey Jones added six aces and four digs. Jordan Carr recorded 19 assists, five digs, three aces, and three blocks. Brooke Reynolds registered five aces, four digs, two kills, two blocks, and two assists. Liz Zatalava rolled into last year's volleyball region title game in a wheelchair after undergoing surgery that day to repair her knee.
Friday night, Zatalava strolled out a region champion after contributing to Rising Sun's 25-15, 25-20, 25-9 victory over visiting Queen Anne's. The Elkton Elks defeated visiting North Caroline's Bulldogs in the East Regional final game Friday night, November 18. "We were in this football game to win it," said Elkton head coach Matt Feeney. The team had lost last year to North Caroline and their victory this year tasted sweet. "We wrote last years score on a white board to be a reminder of what happened, a lot of the guys that played last year did not want to have the same result," said Feeney. The Elks were the first to score with a touchdown and point after kick. North Caroline's Bulldogs were unable to move the ball in the first quarter. The Elks continued to score with two more touchdowns, which brought the score to 19-0 at the end of the first quarter. |
