Perryville Sierra Montz capped off an outstanding meet with a state title in the 300 intermediate hurdles at the MPSSA Track and Field Meet Saturday at Morgan State University.
Montz also placed fourth in the triple jump and seventh in the high hurdles to go along with a third place finish in Thursday's long jump. Montz led the Panthers to a school-best second place finish in the team standings. Manchester Valley won the team title with 102.5 points while Perryville scored 87 points. The Panthers also claimed a state title in the 4 x 400 relay with Autumn Estep, Jordan Dodson, Alysa Conway, and Taesha Andre teaming for the win. Estep, Conway, and Andre combined with Angelica Conway to capture gold in the 4 x 200 relay Thursday. Dodson capped off an outstanding career with her fifth state title, two in outdoor track, two indoors, and one in cross country. The reigning two-time state champion Perryville boys (54 points) placed fourth behind champion Pikesville (91.5), North Carroll (57), and Colonel Richardson (56). Bohemia Manor (42) tied for fifth with Northwestern of Baltimore. It was a remarkable run for the Perryville boys senior class with finishes of 3rd, 1st, 1st, and 4th. The Eagles' Ty Franks won the 1600 meter run and was sixth in the 800. Tyear Castle was the runner-up in the pole vault. Complete photo gallery and more results will be posted online Sunday. The way he runs it's no surprise he's catching them quickly. Franks won his ninth career state title with a dominating performance in the 3200 meter run Thursday on day one of the state track and field meet at Morgan State University. Perryville swept the 1A east region track and field titles Saturday at Kent Island.
The Panther girls claimed their third straight region championship. Perryville (204) edged second place Cambridge-South Dorchester by five points. Sierra Montz paced the Panthers with first place finishes in the high hurdles, intermediate hurdles, and triple jump. She placed second in the long jump. Perryville claimed two of the four relay events. Taesha Andre, Angelica Conway, Alysa Conway, and Autumn Estep teamed to take the 4 x 200. Estep, Tori Antoshak, Alysa Conway, and Andre combined to win the 4 x 400. The Perryville girls lacrosse team's successful season came to an end with a 19-4 loss to Queen Anne's in the region title game last Wednesday in Havre de Grace.
Queen Anne's scored the game's first 12 goals before Panthers' sophomore Taylor Poore put her team on the board in the final minute of the first half. Perryville trailed 13-1 at halftime. The highly-skilled and aggressive Lions double- and sometimes triple-teamed the Perryville player with possession of the ball. BASEBALL

Connor Burkhardt tallied twice for the Tigers and Brad Alexander and Randy Rash each recorded a goal. Alexander and Brandon Aro each notched a pair of assists. Rising Sun advanced to the region baseball semifinals with a 3-1 victory over visiting Harford Tech. There was a scary moment in the sixth when Tigers' starting pitcher Cole Benjamin was hit on the side of the head by a line drive. The ball caromed behind the first base bag where Nick Luciano made the catch. Chris Melrath came on to record the final five outs. Tommy Stover, Nick Luciano, and Daniel Richardson each had an RBI double for Rising Sun The Tigers host Fallston Wednesday at 4 in the regions semifinals. Rising Sun's softball team upended North East 6-5. Winning pitcher Megan Keene drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth to plate Lexi Osborne. Maddie Foard singled and doubled and drove in three. Brooke Bower singled twice. Paige Bradford had an RBi single and scored twice. Taylor Allen had a hit and scored a run. Jess Borchardt scored a run and Lexi Barclay added a hit. Rising Sun hosts Harford Tech Wednesday at 4 in the region semifinals. Bohemia Manor ended the season of the reigning two-time region champion Perryville softball team with a 2-1 triumph in eight innings. The Panthers broke through with a run in the top half on a Brooke Wills sac fly before the Eagles rallied to prevail. Sydie Bjork (three assists) and Taylor Poore each scored six goals to propel the Perryville girls lacrosse team to a 19-5 rout of Elkton.
