Chesapeake City earned the 8-10 softball District 5 title with an 8-3 triumph over Perryville Sunday morning in Havre de Grace.
It seemed fitting a championship hung in the balance the final time a softball fluttered in the dusky sky above the current configuration of Trego Field.
Perryville pitcher Emily Wolf wasn't sure if she could catch it or not. "I saw it in the air and I was like, 'Oh, I've got to catch this ball'," Wolf said. "'If I catch this ball we're about to win' and I almost didn't catch it because I was shaking so bad, but ah, I caught it and it was the best feeling in the world. Oh my God!" Wolf's grab of the popup between the circle and home plate sealed Perryville's 2-1 triumph over Rising Sun in the District 5 Senior Division softball tournament title game Thursday night. Chesapeake City's 8-10 softball All-Stars defeated Perryville 3-1 Saturday morning to force a decisive game to determine the District 5 champion.
The two teams will meet again Sunday at 10 a.m. in a winner take all matchup. Rising Sun stayed alive in the Little League district 9-10 softball tournament with a 27-7 mercy rule win over Perryville Friday in four innings at Stancill Park.
Rising Sun will face Havre de Grace Wednesday, July 6, at 5:30 p.m. Elkton's Senior Division softball All-Stars left no doubt.
Reagan Connell hurled a no-hitter as Elkton captured the District 5 crown with a convincing 10-0 triumph over Perryville Thursday night at Trego Field. Rising Sun's 9-10 baseball All-Stars downed Perryville 12-2 in four innings last Wednesday at Eder Park in the resumption of a game that began the night before.
Perryville's Senior Division softball team went out in style.
Melissa Savin and Aleshia Shires combined on a no-hitter as Perryville topped Delaware 7-0 in last Wednesday. Perryville went 1-3 in Mid-Atlantic pool play and did not qualify for the east region semifinals. The Perryville Senior Division softball team dropped its first two games in the region tournament in Massachusetts.
Perryville fell 3-2 to New Jersey Sunday. Perryville threatened to tie the game in the sixth but was unable to score. |
