The Perryville Senior Division softball team dropped its first two games in the region tournament in Massachusetts. Perryville fell 3-2 to New Jersey Sunday. Perryville threatened to tie the game in the sixth but was unable to score. Jules Jones drew a one-out walk and was replaced by pinch runner Aleshia Shires. Shires advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Melissa Savin and moved to third on a passed ball. Erin Murphy hit a line drive in the hole but the New Jersey shortstop made a diving play to prevent the tying run from scoring.
Perryville had tied the game in the sixth on a home run by Carly White. Brooke Reynolds led off with a bunt single. After a fielder's choice, White belted a monstrous two-run blast to left-center. New Jersey went back in front with a run in the bottom of the sixth. Savin went the distance for Perryville. "We've played hot and cold defensively with three double plays and two outfield assists and Carly has thrown out three runners too far off bases," Perryville manager Mike Phillips said. Pennsylvania blew the game open late to down Perryville 12-4 in the opener Saturday. Ahead, 5-4, Pennsylvania scored a run in the fifth and tacked on six more in the sixth with help from five Perryville errors. Perryville trailed 5-1 before Jordyn Pollitt delivered a two-run double to right-center to score Kaitlyn Griffin and White. In the fifth, Griffin singled to right and White followed with an RBI double off the centerfield fence. Perryville plays New York Tuesday at 1 p.m. and Delaware Wednesday at 10 a.m. Comments are closed.
