Rising Sun captured the Little League Maryland District 5 Junior Division baseball title in convincing fashion. Rising Sun walloped a weary Chesapeake City team 18-1 in four innings Friday night at Eder Park. Chesapeake City, playing its fourth game in five nights after losing its opening game of the tournament, actually led 1-0. Tyler Losten led off the game with a sharp single to right, went to second on a wild pitch, stole third, and scored when the throw went down the left field line.
Rising Sun responded with five runs in the home half of the first. Winning pitcher Sean Seibel was hit by a pitch, stole, second, advanced to third on an error, and scored on a single by Luke Moore. After an out, Hayden Spioch reached on a bloop single. Matthew Trout plated a run with a sacrifice fly. The big blow was a two-run double to left-center by Cole DeRosa. Rising Sun added three more in the second. Spioch doubled in a run. Josh Cage contributed an RBI single up the middle and Seibel walked with the bases loaded. Rising Sun exploded for nine runs in the third against Chesapeake City's depleted pitching staff. Spioch and Colton Brown each had an RBI single. Jonathan Stanley drew a bases loaded walk. Cage, Seibel, and Moore each produced an RBI single and Daniel Tserkis added a two-run single. Connor Suprik's sac fly made it 18-1. Rising Sun begins state tournament competition July 14.
