First-year Rising Sun girls lacrosse coach Becca Guethler was excited by what she has witnessed during the first 10 days of practice. The Tigers have several players capable of being a consistent scoring threat. The coach said playmaker Sarah Yashinskie is "very smart player". Yaskinskie can score and also has a knack for setting up her teammates when she is stationed behind the cage. "Sarah also moves well off the ball and is a good communicator," Guethler said.
Sam Foster will also be a key cog. "Sam is very coachable and has great placement on her shots." Guethler says midfielder Jackie Barbon 'is quick and has a very accurate shot". The coach said Heather Amos is a versatile player who is capable of shooting from both sides. "She knows when to challenge the defense and when to back off," said Guethler. "She also makes great feeds into the 8." Scrappy midfielder Emily Ball is also expected to be a big factor. "Emily hustles for groundballs and works from endline to endline," Guethler said. " Courtney Spangler will anchor the defense. "Courtney protects the 8 like she's supposed to," Guethler said. The coach expects a breakout year from defender Paige Wesley. "Paige is good at intercepting passes," Guethler said. "It's going to be her year." Kelsey Perkins and Maddie Hurm are competing for time in the cage. "Everyone's goal is to have a winning season," Guethler said. "In the same breath, as long as we're improving throughout the season and learning from our mistakes, I'll be happy with that."
