It's quite conceivable both the Perryville's boys and girls track and field teams will be competing against the state's best squads over Memorial Day weekend with a championship on the line.
Until then, coach Jake Moore wants his team to focus on only one opponent. "Our goal is to not beat ourselves," he said. "Our message is that they might get beat by another team, but don't beat themselves. Our number one opponent is ourselves. If we don't beat ourselves, we will end up where we want to be." Collin Beck of North East (152) finished fourth in the state and Zac Zacerous of Perryville placed sixth in the same weight class as the MPSSAA wrestling tournament concluded Monday night at Cole Field House.
Beck, who was the only county wrestler to advance to the semifinals of the championship draw, lost 6-1 to Jimmy Guercio of Manchester Valley in the consolation final. The Panther sophomore Zacerous finished sixth after losing 4-2 to Dunbar's Kyleel Buckner in the fifth place match. North East senior Collin Beck is going out in style.
Beck was the only county wrestler to reach the semifinals and guaranteed himself a top four finish. Beck (152) won his first two matches Saturday – the first day of the MPSSAA wrestling tournament at Cole Field House in College Park. The MPSSAA wrestling tournament has been postponed until Saturday at 9:30 a.m. A revised schedule will be released later Friday.
The Rising Sun girls basketball team knew what it was up against.
The Tigers still weren't prepared for what they got. Region champion Collin Beck of North East tops the list of 14 county wrestlers headed to the state tournament.
Beck captured the crown with a 5-2 victory over Perryville's Zac Zacerous. |
