Region champion Collin Beck of North East tops the list of 14 county wrestlers headed to the state tournament. Beck captured the crown with a 5-2 victory over Perryville's Zac Zacerous. Zacerous had won the two previous meetings this year including a 6-0 triumph Tuesday, February 24, in the UCBAC semifinals.
On Saturday, Beck was in complete control of the match just as Zacerous had been four days earlier. Two other county wrestlers lost in the region title match. Matt Childs of Rising Sun lost 6-1 to Fallston's Devin Hyman at 106 pounds. Bohemia Manor's Rodney Fisher (195) was pinned by Fallston's Gabe Wagner. In addition to the four finalists, 10 other wrestlers finished in the top four to earn a berth in the state tournament. Bohemia Manor has a county-high four wrestlers who advanced. North East and Elkton each have three state qualifiers, and Perryville and Rising Sun will both send two wrestlers to the state tournament. Placing third: Elkton's Zaavan Kenenske (160), Rising Sun's Tyler Jones (152), Elkton's DeValle Williams (170), Bohemia Manor's Cody Dermeyer (220), and Elkton's Enes Dugme. Finishing fourth: North East's Colin Day (113), Bohemia Manor's Josh Hewes (126), Bohemia Manor's Matt Sciamanna (145), North East's Sebastian Nagovich (182), and Perryville's Aengus Vervier (220). The state tournament starts Friday afternoon at 2:30 at Cole Field House on the campus of the University of Maryland. Comments are closed.
