Cecil captured the 16-18 Maryland Babe Ruth baseball title by winning all four of its games in Taneytown. Shorthanded Cecil had just nine players in two of the four games. "I have never been more proud of a group nine or 10 players than these knuckleheads," manager Jim Martz said. "The opponents were quality teams. We faced strong pitching and great defense. This was no small accomplishment." The Rising Sun Little League 9-10 baseball All-Stars were eliminated from the state tournament with a 5-3 loss to Laurel Sunday in Williamsport. Rising Sun missed out on a chance to take the lead in the bottom of the first. Jackson Stickney drew a one-out walk. Daniel Tserkis followed with a shot into the right-center gap to put runners on first and second. The runners moved up on a wild pitch. The Elkton Little League All-Stars captured the Maryland state championship with a two-game sweep of Delmar. Elkton clinched the title with a 13-1 triumph in four innings Sunday in Delmar. Riley Grant recorded six strikeouts to earn the win. She also added an RBI double. Abby Sprouse, Karleigh Baumann and Emily Leonard each had two singles. Zaria Tatem provided a single and an RBI groundout. Hanna Cebenka contributed an RBI single. The Perryville Little League All-Stars captured the Maryland Senior Division softball state championship by taking two straight from Delmar Saturday.
Emily Phillips and Melissa Savin each tossed a shutout as Perryville won both games by the same 10-0 margin in five innings in the two-team tournament held in Delmar. It is the fourth state title for several Perryville players. Perryville advances to the East Region tournament which will be held in Worcester, Mass. beginning July 25. The Elkton Little League All-Stars are one win away from a state title after demolishing Delmar 22-2 in four innings Saturday afternoon. The two teams meet again Sunday at 3 p.m. Elkton will clinch the state title with a victory. A Delmar win would force a decisive third game later on Sunday. The Perryville All-Stars captured the Senior Division softball state title with a two-game sweep of Delmar.

The Elkton All-Stars captured the Little League Maryland District 5 Senior Division baseball title with a rain-shortened 7-3 triumph over Rising Sun Tuesday night in Chesapeake City. A thunderstorm ended the contest with Elkton still batting in the bottom of the fifth. Rising Sun scored three runs in the top of the first before being stymied by Elkton starter Will Lorman and reliever Victor Norris. Elkton defeated Rising Sun in a rain-shortened game to capture the Little League Maryland District 5 Senior Division baseball title Tuesday night in Chesapeake City. Photos coming Wednesday.
In Junior Division baseball, Havre de Grace nipped North East 1-0 to claim the district title. The North East All-Stars eliminated Rising Sun from the Little League Maryland District 5 Junior Division baseball tournament with a 15-11 triumph Monday evening. Winning pitcher Chase Hollister had four hits, including two doubles, and finished with three RBIs. Drake Bare (two-run double) and Eric Steele (two hits) each had two RBIs and scored three runs. Tyeler Buchanan, Chase Klein, Colin Balthaser, and Mason Rice each had an RBI. Patrick O'Brien, Sebastian Nagovich, Dylan Armstrong, and Luke Hamilton each supplied a hit.
