The Perryville Little League All-Stars captured the Maryland Senior Division softball state championship by taking two straight from Delmar Saturday. Emily Phillips and Melissa Savin each tossed a shutout as Perryville won both games by the same 10-0 margin in five innings in the two-team tournament held in Delmar. It is the fourth state title for several Perryville players. Perryville advances to the East Region tournament which will be held in Worcester, Mass. beginning July 25. After Phillips struck out the side in the first inning of game one, Perryville took a 1-0 lead. With one out, Phillips singled through the hole. Carly White hit a smash that the third baseman could not handle and both runners moved up a base on a poor throw back to the infield. Phillips scored on a groundout by Kadi Davis.
Perryville tacked on two more in the second. Brooke Reynolds led off with a bunt single. Sierra Johnson had an RBI single to plate pinch runner Alysa Conway and Johnson eventually scored on an error. In the third, Davis started things with a pop single over shortstop and Jordyn Pollitt hit a bloop RBI double down the right field line. Ashley Phillips added a sacrifice fly to make it 5-0. An Emily Phillips double started a three-run rally in the fifth. White hit a sac fly. Pollitt blooped an RBI single top center and another run scored on an error. Perryville ended the game in the bottom of the fifth scoring once on an error and the game-ending run on a passed ball. The second game was similar but this time it was Savin who shut down Delmar. Savin also drove in the game's first run with a two-out single to right in the bottom of the second. Alexxus Ritter clubbed an RBI double down the left field line to make it 2-0. Delmar had its only real threat of the day in the top of the third when they stranded two runners. In the home half, Pollitt hit a sac fly and Reynolds contributed an RBI single in the fourth. Perryville tallied six times in the fifth to seal the deal. Davis had an RBI single. Kyleigh Knell added an RBI bunt hit. Pollitt scored on a wild pitch and Johnson drove in a run with a groundout. Hanna Downes drilled an RBI single through the hole and Emily Phillips ended the tournament with a run-scoring single to right. Comments are closed.
