The Rising Sun Little League 9-10 baseball All-Stars were eliminated from the state tournament with a 5-3 loss to Laurel Sunday in Williamsport. Rising Sun missed out on a chance to take the lead in the bottom of the first. Jackson Stickney drew a one-out walk. Daniel Tserkis followed with a shot into the right-center gap to put runners on first and second. The runners moved up on a wild pitch. With two outs, Austin McGrady hit a slow grounder to short. The shortstop bobbled the ball but the baserunner was called for interference after inadvertently making contact with the fielder.
Trailing 1-0 Rising Sun took the lead in the bottom of the second. Blake Flaugher got things started with a bunt single. Lane Weismiller drew a one-out walk and the runners advanced on a wild pitch. AJ Peterson hit a bloop RBI single to center and Wesimiller scored when the Laurel throw to third was wild and went out of play. Rising Sun got one run back in the home half when McGrady plated a run on a groundout. The score stayed 4-3 until the top of the sixth when Laurel tacked on an insurance run before Rising Sun escaped further damage by turning a 6-3-2 double play (Weismiller to McGrady to the catcher Owen Scott). Rising Sun was retired in order in the bottom of the sixth to end its season. Rising Sun lost 22-1 to Berlin in their opener Saturday. Comments are closed.
