The Elkton Little League All-Stars captured the Maryland state championship with a two-game sweep of Delmar. Elkton clinched the title with a 13-1 triumph in four innings Sunday in Delmar. Riley Grant recorded six strikeouts to earn the win. She also added an RBI double. Abby Sprouse, Karleigh Baumann and Emily Leonard each had two singles. Zaria Tatem provided a single and an RBI groundout. Hanna Cebenka contributed an RBI single. In its five All-Stars victories, Elkton outscored its opponents a total of 74-9 with each game decided by the 10-run rule. (Click HERE to view photos) Winning pitcher Riley Grant allowed one run in three innings and Riley Esterling pitched the fourth. Elkton tallied nine times in the bottom of the first. Emily Leonard scored on an error and Zaria Tatem and Karleigh Baumann each scored on a wild pitch. Adrianna Giuliani hit an RBI single to plate Grant and wound up scoring on a wild pitch. Faith Trotto drove in a run on a groundout. Baumann and Caroline Miller each drew a bases-loaded walk. The onslaught continued in the second. Giuliani doubled and scored on a Hanna Cebenka triple. Abigail Sprouse had a single and Tatem belted a two-run double to make it 13-0. An RBI single by Grant raised the lead to 15-0 and Trotto capped the inning with a grand slam on a shot that skipped past the right fielder. Sprouse and Leonard each added an RBI single in the third.
