Collin Beck of North East (152) finished fourth in the state and Zac Zacerous of Perryville placed sixth in the same weight class as the MPSSAA wrestling tournament concluded Monday night at Cole Field House.
Beck, who was the only county wrestler to advance to the semifinals of the championship draw, lost 6-1 to Jimmy Guercio of Manchester Valley in the consolation final. The Panther sophomore Zacerous finished sixth after losing 4-2 to Dunbar's Kyleel Buckner in the fifth place match. The Perryville wrestling team topped host Havre de Grace and lost to Aberdeen at a double dual meet Wednesday.
The Panthers edged the Warriors 36-30 in the final match of the evening. It's been a long, eventful trip for Cory Hall.
Wrestling has led the 1996 Rising Sun High School graduate from coast to coast and back home again. Now Hall is in charge of the program which launched his journey. Perryville senior Chris Brown capped off his record-setting career with a state championship. Brown defeated Snow Hill's Camden Fischer 3-0 in the 120-pound final to finish the season with a record of 42-0. Brown's closest call came in the semifinals Saturday morning when he needed overtime to post a 9-1 triumph over Cody Matthews of Mountain Ridge. Six Cecil wrestlers captured a region wrestling title Saturday at North Caroline High.
Rising Sun's Joe Juergens earned his third region crown. Perryville's Chris Brown and Bohemia Manor's Jake Trybus each won a second title while the Eagles' Cody Trybus and Kyle Trybus and the Tigers' Nelson Phillips prevailed for the first time. Perryville's Chris Brown and Rising Sun's Will Barton both made history at the Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference wrestling tournament.
The Rising Sun wrestling team split a pair of home dual meets Monday, January 27.
The Tigers topped North East 51-24. The Rising Sun wrestling team defeated visiting Perryville 49-27 last Wednesday.
The Panthers jumped out to an 18-0 lead on a Kaine Delancy pin over Max Foppiano at 195 and forfeit wins from Aengus Vervier and Logan Kelly. Perryville's Chris Brown won his fourth Battle at the Bridge tournament title and Rising Sun's Nelson Phillips captured his first-ever high school championship Saturday at Bohemia Manor.
