The North East field hockey team was ousted from the playoffs with a 7-1 region semifinal loss to North Harford Monday, October 29.
North East's Abby Riley contracted a serious case of the feels.
The Indians' midfielder scored the game-winning goal in a shootout to propel her team to a pulsating, pressure-packed triumph (0-0, 2-1 in the 1 v 1 shootout) over its fiercest rival, Rising Sun, in a field hockey region tournament game Thursday afternoon. "It is the best feeling in the entire world," said Riley. "I've never felt a feeling ever like that before. It was, by far, the best feeling I've ever had." Tome, North East, and Rising Sun prevailed as six county field hockey teams played Monday, October 8, at Rullo Stadium on the campus of the University of Delaware.
In the opener, Tome topped Bohemia Manor 4-0. The North East field hockey team topped Tome 2-1 at Calvert Regional Park Thursday, September 27.
Fallston scored three goals in the last 16 minutes of the first half to down the Rising Sun field hockey team 3-1 at Calvert Regional Park Wednesday, September 26.
Rising Sun field hockey coach Katie Keyes finally got her message across.
"We need to get rid of the idea that everything needs to be perfect, and just do it," Keyes has repeatedly told her team. Tigers' midfielder Biz Hurm heeded that advice and the result led to Julia Herrmann's goal as Rising Sun recorded its first win of the season by nipping North East 1-0 at Calvert Regional Park Monday, September 17. Abigail Vogelsong tallied twice including the eventual game-winner with 11:53 remaining as the Tome field hockey team nipped host Perryville 2-1 Friday afternoon.
"I got a nice assist again from Laidan Ryan and I just tapped it in," Vogelsong said of her second score. "It's all a team effort." The Rising Sun field hockey team admitted it was disgruntled it hadn't been able to muster a regulation goal despite dominating play for much of the game.
It didn't take long into overtime to end the Tigers' frustration. Meghan Szkalak scored 38 seconds into the extra session to propel Rising Sun to a 1-0 triumph over host North East in the second round of the region tournament Thursday afternoon. The Perryville field hockey team won two of three games this week.
The Panthers walloped Havre de Grace 7-0 Thursday afternoon. |
