Fallston scored three goals in the last 16 minutes of the first half to down the Rising Sun field hockey team 3-1 at Calvert Regional Park Wednesday, September 26. The Tigers dominated the first 10 minutes and struck first when Biz Hurm scored 9:44 into the game. Hurm's goal came on Rising Sun's sixth corner opportunity.
The lead lasted less than five minutes. Melissa Crapanzano scored an equalizer with 15:57 to go in the half. Beginning with 4:40 remaining in the opening stanza, Cougars' freshman midfielder Savanna Henderson tallied twice in a span 2 minutes, 9 seconds to give the visitors a 3-1 halftime edge. "I don't know if it's they got a little comfortable or we just were tired," Keyes said the Tigers' lull. "I'm not really sure but I think we definitely went out super hard and then kind of lost it there at the end of the first half. But I think we got it back." Rising Sun bounced back to play better in the second half and got within one when Courtney England scored with 7:32 remaining in regulation. Keyes was pleased with her team's performance. "I am happy with it," she said. "There are a few things we need to improve upon that I think probably would have made the difference in the game. We needed to go to the ball and we needed to break down when we play defense. Those are the two big ones. But, other than that, I know we hustled. We played as a team, passing the ball. Our hits looked good. I'm happy. Disappointing to not pull out the win but I'm proud of them." Comments are closed.
