The Rising Sun field hockey team lost 3-0 to William Penn (Del.) in the Tigers' season opener Wednesday.

The Tigers had taken the lead four minutes into the game when Brad Alexander converted a cross from Logan Holtman. The Perryville football team opened the season with a 49-13 victory over host Rising Sun Friday night.
Tyrell Hollingsworth scored two touchdowns in the first half and Elijah Johnson tossed two TD passes and ran for another score. The Perryville field hockey team expects to hold their own in the highly-competitive Chesapeake Division.
The Panthers will be led by a talented group of midfielders spearheaded by senior Merve Akbay. There are some encouraging signs as the Rising Sun field hockey team embarks on the long road back to conference and state supremacy. The Tigers have 35 players in the program this season compared to 29 last year. Rising Sun also has a new coach, Katie Keyes (nee Madron), a former Tiger standout who has assembled a star-studded staff including her former teammate Julie Owens (nee Moore), who was one of the top players in school history. The Perryville boys soccer team returns to the Susquehanna Division after a one-year stay in the Chesapeake.
The good news is that the Panthers can rely on several players who had key roles in the program's Susquehanna title in 2012. |
