Winning pitcher Sam Hogue belted two home runs and knocked in seven as Rising Sun clinched the District 5 Major Division baseball title with a 15-0 win over Elkton in four innings Friday night at Eder Park.
After Hogue struck out the side in the top of the first, Rising Sun rallied for 11 runs in the home half to take a commanding lead. North East Little League captured the District 5 Junior Division baseball title with a 12-5 triumph over Elkton Thursday night in Rising Sun.
North East scored six runs in the top of the third to snap a 2-2 tie. Dylan Snyder tossed a six-inning shutout to lead Chesapeake City to a 10-0 triumph over Rising Sun in a Junior baseball losers bracket game Tuesday in Rising Sun.
Jason Mock continued his torrid hitting as the Rising Sun Little League Major Division All-Stars advanced to the district championship round with a 12-3 triumph over Elkton Monday night at Eder Park.
The Cecil Skipjacks baseball team won the state Babe Ruth championship for the second straight season and third time in five years.
"I'm proud of these boys and the heart they showed capturing the state title," manager Jim Martz said. A gutsy Elkton Major Division softball team wasn't able to muster a third game-tying rally.
Elkton lost 8-6 to Delmar in 10 innings in a second round state tournament game Saturday. Chesapeake City Little League captured the 9-10 softball District 5 title by defeating North East 7-3 Saturday afternoon in Perryville.
North East's Madison Culver singled to knock in Sydney Webster in the top of the first but Chesapeake City took the lead for good in the bottom of the second. Perryville Little League won the Senior Division softball state title by sweeping the District 7 representative Calvert Saturday at Eder Park.
Perryville prevailed 18-1 in the opener and 29-0 in the second game. Both games went five innings. Winning pitcher Aleshia Shires allowed just one hit in the second game – a leadoff double by Bella Lunczynski. Rising Sun's patient approach at the plate paid off in a big way.
