Rising Sun claimed the district Junior baseball title with an 11-4 triumph over Elkton Sunday afternoon in Rising Sun. Rising Sun led 3-2 before breaking the game open. The hosts jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Leadoff hitter Kody Brown lashed a double to right-center. Austin McMillan hit a comebacker but the throw to third was late and low. Brown scored on a wild pitch and McMillan scored on a passed ball. Rising Sun got another run in the second. Tyler Snyder and Chad Sherrow walked and Jonah Davis executed a sacrifice bunt. After Brown walked to load the bases, McMillan hit a sacrifice fly to right. Elkton narrowed the gap to 3-2 in the top of the third. Evan Spencer drew a one-out walk and Chris Brinton singled down the third base line. One run scored on an error and Kyle Spencer knocked in a run with an infield hit. The damage could've been worse had the Rising Sun catcher Brown not gunned down a runner at second following the error.
Rising Sun upped the lead to 8-2 in the fourth. David Moore and Cameron Altland walked and Brown reached on an error, enabling Moore to score. McMillan's infield hit in the hole loaded the bases and Nate McCullough looped an RBI single to center. Hodgson hit a comebacker. Elkton got a force at the plate but the throw to first was low and skipped away from the first baseman allowing another run to score. Two more runs crossed the plate on a throwing error. Kyle Spencer had a bloop RBI single in the fifth but Rising Sun responded with two runs in the home half. Altland singled with one out, advanced to third on Brown's double to left-center, and scored on a wild pitch. McMillan followed with an RBI double that caromed off the outstretched glove of the centerfielder. McMillan tossed a complete game. The state tournament begins Saturday, July 20, in Rising Sun. LOSERS BRACKET Elkton 12, Chesapeake City 0 (five innings) Will Lorman hurled a complete game three-hitter with eight strikeouts. He also had two hits and three RBIs. Kyle Spencer delivered a two-run single. Kyle Karnes singled twice and Chris Brinton had a hit, two RBIs, and a run scored. For Chesapeake City, Dillon McFarlin, Chase Justice, and James Lockwood each had a hit. Elkton 9, North East 2 Kyle Spencer collected two hits and two RBIs. Jeremy Husfelt had two hits. Ray Johnson, Cody Lucey, Sean Mullins, Rudy Webster, and Jacob Johnson each added a hit. For North East, Jimmy Racine singled and scored on a Jacob Poore single. Noah Lane added an RBI WINNERS BRACKET Rising Sun 16, Chesapeake City 11 Dakota Hodgson and Nate McCullough each had four hits and two RBIs. Hunter Cole contributed four hits and an RBI. Andrew Anders and James Moyer each had a hit and two RBIs and Jonah Davis drove in a run with a hit. For Chesapeake City, Dillon McFarlin, John Chambers and Chase Justice each had two hits and two RBIs. LOSERS BRACKET Elkton 13, Havre de Grace 5 Ray Johnson had three hits and drew two walks. He knocked in two runs. Kyle Spencer had two hits and two RBIs and Jeremy Husfelt doubled in a run and scored. Mike Flosser had the only hit allowed by four different Elkton pitchers.
