The Rising Sun boys basketball team lost 70-46 to visiting West Nottingham Academy in the season-opener last Wednesday night. The Rams scored the game's first seven points and never looked back. "They're a good team," Rising Sun coach John Walker said. "We're pretty young right now. I've got two seniors, the rest are juniors, so we're learning as we go. They came out and put some good press defense on us. We had trouble adjusting."
WNA's Camden Blount recorded 26 points and 10 rebounds and Justinas Leganovic collected 18 points, 11 assists, and five steals. In addition to several buckets in transition, the Rams were able to get layups in their halfcourt set as they built a 36-21 cushion at the break. "We need to do some better coaching, no doubt about that," said Walker. "On our back side, we were overplaying where we shouldn't have, so they got some easy looks. We're going to make sure we take care of that." Overall, Walker was encouraged by much of what he witnessed. "I was actually pretty pleased," the first-year coach said. "Like I said, we have some really young kids. Ethan Greene, one of our seniors, this is the first time he's been asked to be a scorer. Before in prior years, he's been more of a defender. He had 18 points and did a good job of taking the ball to the basket. We have a couple of point guards that are just learning and I think they did a pretty good job of running some of our plays. Some of our pressure defense did okay. We've got a lot more to work on." Comments are closed.
