Rising Sun boys lacrosse ended their regular season with an 11-7 triumph over visiting Perryville Thursday night, May 4. The Tigers are 11-1 heading into the playoffs. "Before I took this job, I had this misconceived perception that this team at Rising Sun didn't work as hard, they were a white collar team, and they were kind of expecting things to be fed to them on a silver spoon and from the day I got here, these kids proved to me that I couldn't have been more wrong about this school and about this program. This team has got the most heart that I have ever seen on a lacrosse field," said Rising Sun head coach Justin Parker. Perryville's Ray Woods slipped in the first goal for the Panthers. The Tigers answered with four goals, one from Stephen Szkalak, two from Ben Ehrhart, and the other from Ryan Yashinksie to pull the Tigers ahead by the end of the first period. The Panthers tried to trim the deficit with a goal from Nick Roberts but Rising Sun answered with two additional goals to round out the second period. "We just didn't play disciplined enough to win the game tonight. We had a sloppy first half and we got to expend that energy digging out of a hole and then they (Rising Sun) were able to capitalize on it," said Perryville head coach Chris Soper. Trailing 6-3, Perryville's Matt Woods, Alex Hudson, and Ray Woods each supplied a goal to tie things up in the third period. "At half-time we talked to the guys and we just kind of said, 'listen if we start playing the way we are capable of playing, we can get back into this thing pretty quickly,' which we did in the third," said Soper. With seconds left in the third, Rising Sun's Austin Philistine slipped in a goal to break the tie giving the Tigers the lead. "We just do what we do, we keep calm, we had it and we just kept our secrets till the half and then we came out with some new stuff that we haven't done all season. We came out and showed them what we could do," said Philistine. "You just keep on pushing and you just try to get the next goal and keep your composure." The Panthers tried to make a comeback in the fourth with a goal from Roberts to bring them within two points of the Tigers but Rising Sun scored two more goals to end the game. Parker said he could not be more proud of how his team preformed, especially the freshman. "All year they have answered the call. I couldn't be more happier that I have three more years with them," he said. "Ehrhart, Drew Opp, Colby Brown, Noah Boyd, and Tanner Thompson, We expected a lot out of them but I never expected them to be this good as freshman and they are going to be so good when they get older," said Philistine.
