The Rising Sun Little League 10-11 baseball All-Stars staved off elimination with a 7-1 triumph over Easton Wednesday in Frederick. Starter Sam Hogue fanned 11 and allowed one hit over 4 2/3 scoreless innings and three relievers combined to get the final four outs. Rising Sun tallied twice in the top of the first and never looked back. With one out, Mason Craig bounced a single up the middle and Ethan Pierce singled sharply to center. Hogue knocked in the first run with a single to center and Xavier Gilcher plated a run on a groundout. Rising Sun tacked on three runs in the fourth. Joey Trout reached on an error with one out. With two outs, Jason Mock doubled over the head of the centerfielder. Craig followed with a sinking liner to center. The centerfielder made a valiant diving attempt but could not hang on. Craig's two-run single made it 4-0. Pierce singled to center and Craig scored when Easton made an error on a ball hit by Hogue.
In the top of the sixth, Rising Sun added two runs. Mock alertly scampered home when no Easton player covered the plate and Pierce scored on an errant throw back to the pitcher. Hogue dominated Easton until reaching his pitch count limit with two outs in the fifth. Gilcher came on to get a strikeout to end the inning. Pierce started the sixth but was removed after throwing 20 pitches so he would remain eligible to pitch tonight. Jon Valentine allowed a bases-loaded walk before getting the final out. Rising Sun takes on Conococheague tonight at 6 p.m. The winner advances to play undefeated West Salisbury in the championship round. Comments are closed.
