It was a beautiful thing to behold – unless you are a John Carroll girls soccer player or a Patriots' supporter. Rising Sun coach Dylan Aiman promised his squad would play "real soccer" and the Tigers delivered in a big way Friday. Organized Rising Sun used precision passing to control the game and capitalized on its scoring chances to down perennial power John Carroll 3-0. "I think we played exactly the style that we should be playing, that they're capable of playing," Rising Sun coach Dylan Aiman said. "And that is high pressure, hard work off the ball, being the first to the ball, winning balls, and then once we win it, not turning it over. Real soccer. We spread it out. Knocked it around. (John Carroll) was incredibly frustrated. They couldn't get anything going…They weren't used to that. They were upset."
Jillian Seay, Jackie Barbon, and Mikaela Berg tallied for the Tigers. The sophomore Seay gave the Tigers the lead after taking a pass from classmate Teresa Reid. Seay dribbled left across the top of the box and sent a left-footed shot back inside the right goal post. Barbon, a junior who moved from defense to midfield this year, made it 2-0 in the first minute of the second half, one-timing a bounding ball over the head of the keeper from outside of the penalty area. The freshman Berg iced the game when she ran on to a clear from Taylor Mocknis and buried a shot from inside the right corner of the box. Now, the challenge becomes replicating this kind of performance every game. "That's the conversation we had (following the game)," said Aiman. "You've now demonstrated your ability. Where do we go from here? I challenged them. Our motto is "To dare is to do". I dared them. I challenged them. Can we practice harder? Can we get better? Can we build? I firmly believe if we can play at this level we are a serious state contender." Comments are closed.
