The Rising Sun girls basketball team recorded two victories and played well in its lone loss of the week. The Tigers downed visiting Havre de Grace 49-37 Thursday night. Rising Sun led 26-21 at halftime before the Warriors opened the third quarter with six straight points to grab a one-point edge.
Rising Sun rebounded quickly, closing out the quarter on a 13-2 spurt. "I was a little concerned," said Rising Sun's Brooke Bower. "We just started playing harder. We were a little flat-footed at the beginning so we picked it up at the end." Bower started the run with a three-point play and followed with a jumper. She then assisted on a basket by Paige Bradford. After Havre de Grace scored to trim their deficit to 35-29, Bower and Bradford scored to give the hosts a 39-29 cushion heading into the fourth quarter. "The one thing about our team that I see growth in is that they don't get rattled too much when they're down," Rising Sun coach Kathy Stoudt said. "They showed poise and were able to fight back and get a comfortable lead." Bower finished with 23 points and four steals. The Havre de Grace defense "It's kind of cool, actually," said Bower. "I try harder to get open. I let my teammates play more than me." Bradford had 13 points. Taylor Allen added 10 rebounds and seven steals. Alexa Webber chipped in seven points and Courtney Spangler supplied seven rebounds. The Tigers (7-2) topped Joppatowne 54-44 Tuesday, January 14. Bower provided 21 points, six rebounds, and four steals. Bradford contributed 14 points, five rebounds, and four steals. Edgewood pulled away for a 58-45 win over the Tigers Monday, January 13. The game was tied at 35 entering the fourth quarter. Bower notched 25 points and five steals. Bradford registered six points. Allen grabbed 11 rebounds and Spangler added five points and eight rebounds. Comments are closed.
