The Rising Sun boys soccer team pulled an out an exciting 4-3 triumph over host North East Tuesday night, September 16. It was a back and forth affair with the teams trading goals until Kane Watson headed home the game-winner in the 71st minute on a cross from Logan Holtman. Lane Schmidt put the Indians ahead in the seventh minute before the Tigers' Martin Stillwell responded six minutes later off an assist from Zak Wiegand. North East reclaimed the lead in the 18th minute with Dean Palmer scoring and Josh DeMichele notching the assist. That lead lasted four minutes before Michael Catena tied it off an assist from Brad Alexander.
The Indians countered quickly, regaining the lead a minute later on a Caron Webb goal. Schmidt had the assist. North East took a 3-2 lead into halftime. The Tigers tied it in the 59th minute on a Jeff Haley goal and Catena assist. Kane then tallied the game-winner with nine minutes remaining. Chris Orr made three saves for the Tigers. North East's Colin Beck turned aside 12 shots. The Tigers have won five in a row after losing the opener. Rising Sun routed Harford Tech 4-0 Monday, September 15. (See photos below.) Zak Wiegand tallied twice for the Tigers, once in each half. Catena opened the scoring in the ninth minute off a pass from Cody Thomas. Alexander assisted goals five minutes apart with Haley making it 2-0 in the 30th minute followed by Wiegand's first goal. Wiegand capped the scoring with a minute left with Thomas picking up another assist. Comments are closed.
