The Rising Sun boys soccer team demonstrated it could play with the top dogs. Fallston showed it's still one of the teams to beat. The visiting Cougars came back from a 3-1 deficit and scored the game-winner five minutes into the second overtime period to top the Tigers 4-3 on a rain-soaked field Thursday afternoon. Ryan Tarrant ran on to a loose ball at the top of the box and rocketed a shot into the net to end the game. It was Fallston's only lead of the game and put a damper on a valiant effort by the Tigers.
Rising Sun had taken the lead in the sixth minute on a goal by Brad Alexander off an assist from Kane Watson. Logan Holtman scored the first of his two goals in the 25th minute to make it 2-0. Fallston got on the board a minute before halftime when the Tigers committed a foul just outside the penalty area and Tarrant buried the free kick. Holtman scored to regain a two-goal lead but momentum changed for good two minutes later. Fallston sent a seemingly harmless pass into the Rising Sun box, but the ball caromed off the leg of a Tiger defender and into the net. "It's hard to beat them when you give them two goals," said Rising Sun coach Ken Ulrich. Fallston dominated from that point on and tied it in the 60th minute on a goal by Cooper Andrus. Tiger goalie Bryce Calhoun made 14 saves. Ulrich was proud of his team's effort. "Minute for minute we played them tough," he said. "We'll probably see them again in the playoffs. I think we proved we could play with them." Comments are closed.
