The Rising Sun boys lacrosse team came up a goal short for the third time this season. The Tigers (2-6) fell to visiting Havre de Grace 11-10 Wednesday night, April 17. Trailing 11-8 with less than eight minutes to play, Rising Sun tallied twice to get within a goal. A potential game-tying shot by Quinn Struble caromed off the goal post with 16 seconds left. The Tigers had one final chance, but the shot was not on-cage and Rising Sun was whistled for a crease violation.
Havre de Grace got the ball back with six seconds left and simply heaved a pass into the air to allow time to expire. Ben Ehrhart, Drew Opp, Ethan Greene, and Wyatt McMillian each scored twice for the Tigers. Struble and Cade Eyman each added a goal. Havre de Grace had taken a 7-6 lead on a fluky goal at the halftime horn. With one second left before the break, the Warriors got possession on the endline behind the Rising Sun cage. Havre de Grace put its offensive players in front of the crease, fired the ball toward the goal, and it somehow ricocheted off a player or players and into the cage. Ehrhart tied the game early in the third quarter before the Warriors scored three straight to take a 10-7 lead. Eyman scored on an outstanding individual effort, racing toward the goal from deep in Rising Sun's end of the field, to get the Tigers within two. Havre de Grace upped its lead to 11-8 before Opp scored an extra man goal and Greene made it a one-goal game with 3:11 remaining. But Rising Sun was unable to tally the equalizer in the final minutes. This season, the Tigers have lost all three games which have been decided by one goal. Comments are closed.
