Suddenly, the Rising Sun boys basketball team is on another kind of streak. The Tigers earned two victories in less than 24 hours for their first winning streak of the season.
Rising Sun had lost 11 in a row since opening the season with a triumph over Tome. Brandon Aro had a huge game to propel the Tigers to a 74-54 victory over host Harford Christian Saturday afternoon. Aro amassed 37 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists, and four blocks. Kevin Alkinburg added 12 points, six rebounds, and three steals. Spencer McDermott collected 12 points and three steals. Jesse Shields supplied eight points and three steals and Brennan Martz recorded nine rebounds, three steals, and three assists. The Tigers led 30-25 at halftime before breaking the game open. Rising Sun earned its elusive second win in emphatic fashion by routing Bohemia Manor 60-30 Friday night. The Tigers took command midway through the second quarter. Ahead 14-13, Rising Sun embarked on a 13-4 spurt and never looked back. Leading 29-19 at halftime, the hosts outscored the Eagles 13-4 in the third quarter. "Senior Night at home," Rising Sun coach Matt Haack said. "The guys got a chance to meet the 1972 team before the game and chat with them. And there was a lot of energy here. A lot of positive energy. The guys were kind of feeding off that and with it being a matchup with a county rival we knew we could hang with, the guys kept that energy going and we were able to slowly build up a lead. I was proud of the seniors." Seniors Aro, McDermott, and Luciano were honored in a pregame ceremony. Aro finished with 16 points, seven blocks, four steals, three assists, and two rebounds. McDermott collected nine points, four rebounds, and three steals. "We practiced hard during the week," McDermott said. "We just came out harder than last time and played as a team." Sophomore Will Farrington had seven points and six boards and freshman Naim Collins contributed six points and three assists. Comments are closed.
