The Rising Sun boys basketball team could not sustain its strong start. The Tigers led 11-3 a little over four minutes into the game before visiting Havre de Grace battled back and eventually pulled away for a 51-43 triumph. Tigers' coach Don Passenant bemoaned his team's lack of consistency. "We need to focus the whole time," he said. "A lot of times we get off to a good jump, a good start, and other team picks it up and we don't pick it up. We get relaxed and we need to full a full game, 32 minutes." Rising Sun (2-6) held a 23-20 advantage early in the third quarter when Havre de Grace went on a 13-1 run. Passenant called a timeout during that stretch and hollered at his team in what he said was an attempt to inspire them. He conceded it did not work. "You never know what's going to happen," Passenant said. "You try everything in the book. You try everything to get guys motivated. You don't know if they're going to come out of the timeout. Sometimes they're fired up. Sometimes they're not." Havre de Grace led by 11 midway through the fourth quarter. Rising Sun got within six with 1:57 left on a Noah Juergens basket but that was a s close as they would come. "I told them we need to work on some things [at practice Saturday]," said Passenant. "But the important thing is they do it out here on the court. If they do everything in practice but they don't do it [during games], it's not going to happen. Havre de Grace is a really good team. We played them well. But not good enough." Will Farrington paced the Tigers with 13 points. Casey Baker added 11 and Jake Keane recorded eight. Comments are closed.
