The Rising Sun baseball team suffered its first loss of the season Friday in dramatic fashion. North Harford's Nic Hammer blasted a three-run homer in the bottom of the 14th inning to propel the Hawks to a 10-9 triumph. The Tigers had tallied twice in the top of the 14th on an RBI infield hit by Zach Van Dyke and a bases-loaded walk to Will Barton. It was the continuation of a game that began at North Harford March 31 and was halted by darkness with the score tied at 7 after nine innings. Rising Sun raised its record to 11-0 with a rout of Perryville Tuesday, April 22. The Tigers pounded the Panthers 17-1 in five innings. Perryville coach Jason Gunning elected to sit his upperclassmen so the Panthers fielded an inexperienced lineup.
Adam Janney was 3 for 4 with three RBIs to lead the Tigers. Zach Van Dyke collected two hits and three RBIs. Nick Luciano had three hits and an RBI. Dan Willert recorded two hits and two RBIs. Chris Melrath added two hits and an RBI. Daniel Richardson, Will Barton, Sean Goodie, and Tommy Stover each registered a hit and an RBI. Jared Hoag also has a base-knock in the Tigers' 17-hit attack. Rising Sun pitcher Brennan Martz shut the Panthers down after the first inning and finished with 11 strikeouts to earn the victory. The Tigers scored three runs in the top of the first before the game was halted because of lightning in the area. Perryville scored its lone run after the delay when Jacob Brustman doubled and scored on a Kody Brown triple. Rising Sun then topped Harford Tech 7-3 Wednesday. The Tigers snapped a 2-2 tie with three runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh. Janney and Barton each had two hits and two RBIs. Willert and Richardson each added two hits and an RBI. Luciano also drove in a run. Cole Benjamin struck out 10 and gave up just one earned run. Comments are closed.
