Lydia Hill tossed a complete game and came within two outs of a shutout as the Perryville softball team completed a season sweep of Rising Sun. The Panthers prevailed 3-1 Tuesday night at Trego Field. Perryville staked Hill to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Ashley Meekins was hit by a pitch and stole second. With one out, Krystle Schweers delivered an RBI single to right and advanced to second on an error.
Schweers, the lone Panther senior, was honored prior to the game. Aubrey Hill followed with an RBI single down the left field line to make it 2-0 and give her sister all the support she would need. Rising Sun threatened in the top of the fifth. Megan Keene led off with a booming triple to right center. But Lydia Hill came through with her pitching and her defense. She fielded a bunt and threw to first for the out and Keene was not able to score. The next batter hit a comebacker. Hill fielded the ball, looked Keene back to third, and threw to first for the second out. Hill got out of the jam with a strikeout. Perryville added an insurance run in the home half of the fifth. Lydia Hill was hit by a pitch and scored on a double by Kaitlyn Griffin, who was thrown out at third on the play. Hill carried a shutout into the seventh before the Tigers' Lexie Barclay belted a home run over the center field fence. Hill retired the next two hitters to seal the deal. Comments are closed.
