Fallston clinched the Susquehanna Division girls basketball title with a 58-24 triumph over host Rising Sun Tuesday night. The Cougars led 9-8 after the opening eight minutes before embarking on a 17-0 run to start the second quarter.
Tigers' coach Kathy Stoudt was at a loss to explain what went wrong. "I don't know to be honest with you," she said. "We came out strong in the first quarter. We thought we did well. We were in the game. We missed a few key shots. We had them in foul trouble. We had a lot of things going for us. But they're a fundamentally-sound team. They got us caught watching their passes, their cuts to the lane. I don't know. I don't know what to say about it to be honest with you." After scoring the game's first two baskets, Rising Sun went the next 13:22 without a field goal as Fallston's press took a toll. "We weren't coming to the ball," said Stoudt. "We were trying to dribble through it instead of passing through it. We were trying to tell them to catch the ball and then look up the floor to see what was open. Nerves or whatever, our girls would catch it and wanted to put their heads down and dribble. That got us in trouble." Down 26-8, the Tigers tallied seven straight points but Fallston scored the final basket of the quarter to take a 28-15 lead into intermission. Brooke Bower led Rising Sun with 10 points, four rebounds, and three steals. Lexi Osborne added seven rebounds. Comments are closed.
