Elkton Little League's 9-10 baseball All-Stars clinched the District 5 title with a 13-8 triumph over Chesapeake City Monday, July 11, at Eder Park. Elkton had to come back from a pair of early deficits.
Chesapeake City tallied twice in the top of the first. Bayne Mullin belted an RBI double to center and scored on Orvy Potts' single through the hole. Elkton responded in the home half to tie it. Pitcher Deaven Jones lined a shot past the second baseman which went all the way to the fence for a triple. He scored when Braden Paris grounded out to third. Zane Bohn walked, went to second on a passed ball, and scored when Hunter Magaw hit a bouncer over the head of the third baseman. Chesapeake City countered with three runs in the top of the second. Andrew Connolley and Jake Vaughan each singled and Nate Fleming walked to load the bases. Jones retired the next two batters before Mullin knocked in two with a single to center and a third run scored on an error on the play. Elkton took the lead for good in the bottom of the third, scoring four runs after there were two outs and nobody on base. Jones lined an RBI single to right and eventually scored on an error. Bohn doubled to put runners on second and third and Gary Slagle blooped a two-run double down the right field line to give Elkton a 6-5 edge. Elkton broke it open with six runs in the third. Logan Hall hit an RBI single. Bohn delivered a two-run single and Magaw added an RBI single. Chesapeake City cut the deficit down to 11-7 in the fourth when Mullin blasted a towering two-run homer over the centerfield fence. Jackson Lewis tripled in the bottom of the fourth and scored on a wild pitch. Jones doubled for his third hit of the game and and wound up scoring on a wild pitch. Chesapeake City. needing successive wins over undefeated Elkton to win the title, scored once in the top of the sixth when Fleming tripled and scored. Jones reached his pitch limit with own out in the sixth and Bohn came on to get the last two outs. Comments are closed.
