Savelle Brown scored on a free position shot with two seconds remaining as the Elkton girls lacrosse team spoiled Senior Night for Rising Sun by beating the Tigers 17-16 Tuesday night. Heather Amos had tied it for the Tigers with 31 seconds left in regulation. Rising Sun led comfortably until midway through the second half. "I definitely think that we were overconfident with ourselves and it's all back to basics," Rising Sun coach Becca Guethler said. "We really weren't doing a great job picking up those groundballs, and throwing and catching. I think this is a very humbling experience and it's something we can definitely learn from. Elkton played a great game."
The Elks dominated the draws in the second half. "There were no tenacious players out there who really showed that they wanted that ball," said Guethler. "I felt that they sort of stepped back and let them receive it and then played defense. When really we need to step up and grab those draws." Elkton also did a good job of drawing fouls on the Tigers. "We were not playing controlled and the way we should have," Guethler said. "So our body language and the way we were acting definitely did not go in our favor. I'm sure that's what led to those calls." Erin DePaul paced the Elks with five goals. Emily Caldarelli contributed three goals and one assist. Angel Lowe and Brown both scored three goals. Julia Matsen tallied two goals and two assists and Maura Muldoon added a goal For Rising Sun, Amos finished with four goals and two assists. Sarah Yashinskie and Sam Foster each scored three goals. Liz Zatalava collected two goals and two assists. Olivia Zorn supplied two goals and Maggie Palfi and Jasmyne Moore each added a goal. The Tigers bounced back with a 20-5 triumph over Bohemia Manor Wednesday. Comments are closed.
