The Chesapeake City Little League 9-10 softball All-Stars lost 19-1 to Sharpsburg Monday, July 20, in the state championship round. After dropping the tourney opener, Chesapeake City won three straight games to make the final round but did not have its experienced pitchers available against Sharpsburg. Chesapeake City had two hits, back-to-back to Paige Racine and Kaylyn Mishaw. Anna Wilson knocked in Racine with the lone run. Chesapeake City 24, Delmar 20 Olivia McCraw was 4 for 6 to pace Chesapeake City. Paige Racine, Anna Wilson, and Kaylyn Mishaw each added a pair of hits. Delmar shortstop Karli Penrod was 4 for 5 and scored four runs. Mishaw recorded 10 strikeouts. Chesapeake City 14, St. Mary's 2 Left fielder Emma Martino made a spectacular catch to help Chesapeake City get out of a bases loaded jam in the third. Winning pitcher Kaylyn Mishaw fanned 10 and gave up just one walk. Jordan Alexander, Olivia McCraw, Anna Wilson, and Paige Racine each had two hits. Chesapeake City 13, Easton 3 Kaylen Mishaw and Olivia McCraw each posted four strikeouts and got help from an improved Chesapeake City defense. Paige Racine was 4 for 4 and Mishaw and Anna Wilson both notched a pair of hits. St. Mary's 11, Chesapeake City 8 Chesapeake City struggled on defense in the opener. Anna Wilson scored a run in each of the first two innings as Chesapeake City battled back from an early hole to tie the game at 7-7.
