Chesapeake City eliminated Perryville from the Little League Maryland District 5 Major Division softball tournament by holding on for a 7-6 triumph Wednesday evening in North East. Ahead 7-4, Chesapeake City was one out away from winning before Gabby Frazier belted an RBI triple. She scored on an infield hit by Hannah Gordon to trim Perryville's deficit down to 7-6. Gordon stole second and third, but winning pitcher Arianna Frey fanned the next batter to secure the victory in the back-and-forth affair. After Perryville went on top 1-0 on an RBI single by Arianna Varela, Chesapeake City countered with three runs in the bottom of the first. Emily Heath knocked in a run with a single and Frey had an RBI groundout.
Perryville tied it in the third on a two-run single by Justine Bowman. Chesapeake City took a 4-3 lead on an Ali Link groundout in the fourth but Perryville responded in its next at bat. Kristyn Gardner doubled, stole third, and scored on a Varela sacrifice fly. Chesapeake City tallied three times in the home half of the fifth to take command. Heath ignited the uprising with a hustle double. Lexi Bailey followed with an RBI double just inside the right field line. Frey singled to right to put runners on the corners and Madison Fleming delivered an RBI single to center which put runners on first and third. Already trailing by two runs and with only one more turn at bat, Perryville elected to play its infield at normal depth. Chesapeake City was able to lengthen its lead to 7-4 on an RBI grounder to shortstop off the bat of Ellie Kemether. Perryville rallied in the top of the sixth but came up one run short.
