Chesapeake City clinched the district 9-10 softball tournament with a 5-2 triumph over Havre de Grace Saturday at Stancill Park. Chesapeake City jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Leadoff batter Paige Racine hit a comebacker and went all the way to third on a throwing error. She scored on a wild pitch.
Havre de Grace countered with two runs in the home half. Kinsey Mentzer reached on an infield hit and moved to second on an error and to third on a wild pitch. After an out, Madison Johnson delivered an RBI single through the hole and took second on an error on the play. Johnson advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a passed ball to give her team a 2-1 lead. Chesapeake City tied it in the top of the second. Jordan Alexander was hit by a pitch, went to second on a groundout, to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a two-out wild pitch. Chesapeake City tallied twice in the third to take command. Racine reached on a dropped pop up, stole second, and scored following two wild pitches. With one out, Abby Potts walked, stole second, went to third on a groundout, and scored on a wild pitch to put Chesapeake City ahead 4-2. Chesapeake City added an insurance run in the fifth when Potts singled and eventually scored on a wild pitch. That was more than enough runs for Potts and the Chesapeake City defense. Havre de Grace needed successive wins over undefeated Chesapeake City to claim the crown. It is the sixth straight year Chesapeake City has won the district 9-10 softball title. Comments are closed.
