Chesapeake City Little League advanced to the championship round of the 9-10 baseball tournament by downing Rising Sun 12-9 Friday. Chesapeake City needs two straight wins over undefeated Elkton to claim the crown, starting Saturday morning at 11. Leading 9-1 after 2 1/2 innings, Chesapeake City survived a few anxious moments over the final frames. Rising Sun's Blake Flaugher drove in a run on a groundout in the third.
After Chesapeake City starter Jake Koehler was relieved in the fourth, Rising Sun scored three runs to trim the deficit to 9-5. Matthew Trout singled and scored a run. Connor Racine recorded an RBI single and another run scored on an interference call. Chesapeake City countered with three runs in the top of the fifth to make it 12-5. Koehler, Robbie Burris, and Aiden Collings each had an RBI hit. Rising Sun made things interesting by scoring four runs in the home half of the fifth. Luke Trout delivered an two-run single. Flaugher drew a bases loaded walk and another run scored on an error. Rising Sun reliever Cameron Klotz retired Chesapeake City in order in the top of the sixth to give his team one final opportunity. Rising Sun had two on with two outs before Burris closed the door. Ahead 2-0, Chesapeake City tallied seven times in the second to take command. Deven Bloodsworth, Koehler, Brett Cochran, Collings, and Nolan Peel each had an RBI hit in the inning.
