Bohemia Manor boosted its playoff aspirations with a 19-14 victory over host North East Friday night. Down 19-7 after being stymied by a stout Eagles' defense for most of the game, the Indians had an opportunity to take the lead in the final minutes.
A 20-yard touchdown run by Jachai Graham trimmed North East's deficit to 19-14 with 6:39 remaining. Bohemia Manor pounced on an onside kick attempt but could not get a first down after the Indians' Tyler Bane chased Eagles' quarterback Jake Harris out of bounds for a seven-yard loss on 3rd and 7. Bo Manor punted and the Indians took over at their own 20 with 4:46 left. Two 15-yard penalties, a personal foul and a face mask, helped the hosts advance to the Eagles' 44. That would be as far as they would get. A holding penalty pushed the ball back over midfield and a third down sack by Mike Davidson forced a 4th and 20. North East tried a double pass gadget play but the pass deep down the middle was picked off by Jordan Darling with 2:26 to go. North East could have gotten the ball back one more time but a personal foul penalty gave the Eagles a first down with 1:27 remaining. Both teams were beset by penalties – especially in the second half. The first half was a more crisply played affair with Bohemia Manor holding a 13-7 edge at the break. The Eagles struck on the game's first possession as Harris' one-yard plunge capped a 15-play drive which lasted 7 minutes, 37 seconds. The PAT was missed. North East answered with a one-yard TD run by Jalen Giles midway through the second quarter to take a 7-6 edge. The Eagles regained the lead on a 20-yard TD pass from Harris to James Baglio. Harris rolled right before turning and throwing across the field to a wide-open Baglio, who was able to waltz into the end zone. Baglio scored from five yards out to give Bohemia Manor a 19-7 lead with 8:17 to go in the third quarter. Darnell Coursey had an interception to end an Indians drive that got as far as the Bohemia Manor 26. The Eagles failed on a fake punt on 4th and 3 from their own 32 but the risk did not come back to haunt them as the defense came up big again. After Graham's touchdown made it 19-14, Bohemia Manor made one final stop to seal the deal. Comments are closed.
