Megan Keene struck out the final two hitters with the potential tying run on third as the Rising Sun softball team held on for a 7-6 triumph over visiting Perryville Friday. The Tigers tallied three times in the home half of the sixth to take a 7-4 lead. Jess Borchardt led off with a bunt single. The next batter, Madison Foard, fouled off two bunt attempts before lining a single between the shortstop and third baseman. Lexi Osborne followed with a groundball single to right to plate Borchardt with the go-ahead run and Foard and Osborne each moved up a base on the throw to the plate. A run scored on a wild pitch and Taylor Allen delivered an RBI single to make it 7-4.
The Panthers didn't go quietly. Molly Staley reached on an error. After a strikeout, Jules Jones singled to put runners on the corners. Lydia Hill hit a slow roller toward first and was safe on a fielder's choice when the throw home was late. Emily Phillips blooped a single to right to cut the deficit to 7-6. Phillips stole second without a play to put runners on second and third with only one out. But Keene rebounded to retire the next hitter on a called third strike and then whiffed the following batter to end the game. Perryville had grabbed a 3-0 lead in the second, ignited by a leadoff double off the right field fence by Jones. Rising Sun responded with three run in the bottom of the third. Keene drilled an RBI single to put the Tigers on the board. Bower added an RBI single and Borchardt drew a bases-loaded walk. The Panthers regained the lead in the top of the fourth as Krystle Schweers produced a two-out RBI base hit. Rising Sun tied the game in the fifth. Allen led off by smashing a double to left and eventually scored on a Bower sacrifice fly. The Tigers were coming off a 1-0 loss to Harford Tech on Thursday. Tech scored a run in the first inning and it stood up. Bower, Allen, Foard, and Julianna Eckman each had a hit for Rising Sun. Keene was saddled with the loss despite a solid performance. Perryville defeated North Harford 12-2 in five innings last Wednesday. Kaitlyn Willis struck out 10 to notch the win. Schweers was 3 for 4 with a triple, four RBIs, and three runs scored. Brooke Wills was 3 for 4 with an RBI and run scored. Hill tripled and doubled. Staley, Emily Baker, Jones, and Nikki Hill each contributed a hit. Erin Murphy walked twice and scored both times. Willis drew three walks and her courtesy runner Ashley Meekins scored three runs. Comments are closed.
