The Perryville girls lacrosse team rallied for a 10-8 triumph over North East Wednesday night. The Panthers trailed 8-5 before scoring the game's final five goals. Taylor Poore's goal with just over eight minutes remaining cut Perryville's deficit to 8-7. Sydnie Bjork tied the game with 4:11 to go. With the Indians inadvertently playing a player down, Poore scored the go-ahead goal from a sharp angle with 3:02 left. Stationed at the left of the cage, she was able to tuck the ball into the net.
"The ball rolled through the crease," Poore said. "I picked it up and just shot it. I was lucky it went in because it was from a close angle." There was some confusion after a North East player was whistled for a foul. It wasn't clear whether the player had been issued a yellow card, but it turned out she had not been. The Panthers took advantage of the extra-player opportunity. Perryville preserved the lead while playing with a two-player advantage. While still up a player, Bjork put the game-away by scoring with 20 seconds to go. "It's awesome because the last time it was really close (a 9-8 North East win)," said Poore. "We were really upset because we didn't play very well in that game." Bjork finished with five goals and an assist. Poore provided four goals and Sam Leonard added as goal. Adrienne Weiman made five saves. Haley Christie paced the Indians with three goals. Amy O'Dell tallied twice and Baily Kerr, Steph Smith, and Brianna Christie each added a goal. Molly Smith had six saves. Comments are closed.
